Kearstin is a Costumer, panelist, costume judge, artist, model (nude, fetish, alternative), photographer, drummer, pianist, singer, photo re-toucher, graphic designer, event coordinator, charity enthusiast, collector…. well, jack of all trades. Yes, all listed are active hobbies. And even being this busy…she took time to talk to us here at Guysnation.com
Jack Nickelz: So what inspired you to start Cosplaying?
Kearstin: I had already been going to conventions, but in my area, costuming wasn’t that big of a thing when I was in high school. So when I started to see it rise in popularity about 8 years ago, I had no idea it was a thing. I always thought they were just hired models wearing costumes (not that there’s anything wrong with that though!). So, I dipped into it, and have loved it since!
Jack Nickelz: What was your first Cosplay?
Kearstin: Dark Phoenix!
Jack Nickelz: How was your first convention experience?
Kearstin: Oh absolutely overwhelming. I had no idea what I wanted to do, where to go, what I should see. I ended up just shopping the whole weekend and hanging with friends! Just as fun!
Jack Nickelz: What have been some of your fav. Cosplays to do?
Kearstin: My top favorites: 90’s Jean Grey, Lilith (Borderlands 1), Angela (Spawn), Red Lantern Mera.
Jack Nickelz: Do you have a Cosplay that you are becoming known for?
Kearstin: I think it’s safe to say my 90’s Jean is what people know me for. My Angela was a huge hit but then she went to Marvel and people think I’m dressed as the same 🙂
Jack Nickelz: Now you have been in all places of the Cosplay world, from Cosplayer to Judge. Which role have you found to be the most fulfilling?
Kearstin: Honestly, the role of just doing me. While the monetary parts are nice, and being a judge can be pretty validating; at the end of the day, I prefer just wearing a costume for an hour or two, and then hang out with my friends and shop!
Jack Nickelz: Now I hear you also model. What types of shoots do you do?
Kearstin: I’ve been modeling for over a decade. All across many genres, but primarily alternative, nudity, fetish and erotic. I’m also a photographer, so I like to be versatile behind the lens as well.
Jack Nickelz: What have been some of your fav. shoots?
Kearstin: The Cosplay smut and my work with GeekGoddess. It’s a combination of my love for costuming as well as my belief in being sexually proud and strong.
Jack Nickelz: Has Cosplaying helped your modeling and vice versa?
Kearstin: I was a model first, and eventually I modeled costumes, but, aside GG and fetish work, I tend to keep them separate.
Kearstin: GeekGoddess (GG) is a membership based website founded by two geeky women: Jessica Nova and Oracle. The site features artistic nudes of the female figure with a geek spin. While predominantly focusing on the subculture of the nerd and geek, our focus on the beauty of women is timeless. We will put the art back in erotic art. We will set ourselves apart from the competition by celebrating the true beauty of the geek female and her community. We will raise her up and she will become a Goddess!
Jack Nickelz: How much have your roles as a Cosplayer and model help you out as a photographer?
Kearstin: It helps to see what I feel, and feel what I see. So when I’m behind and in front, I constantly absorb all the experience because there is always something to learn.
Jack Nickelz: You are also known to be a musician. What style of music do you do and where could people go to hear your work?
Kearstin: I started as a pianist, classically trained. Later in life, I started to play some rock music. These days, I’m looking to just play anything! On drums, I was in drumline/marching band growing up. I played in a few bands, which was punk rock and rockabilly. I sang in a psychobilly band for a short time as well. These days, I’m itching to get back into the music scene, but it’s been hard to find the time! I unfortunately don’t have anything much other than bullshit singing on SoundCloud, but I plan on fixing that! I have great recording equipment and I need to share! I love music!
Jack Nickelz: Does being an artist come in handy when you are fleshing out which Cosplay to do?
Kearstin: Sometimes! I’m such a perfectionist, that if there is a tiny detail that I can’t figure out, sometimes I won’t do it. That’s mostly because I try to make everything myself if I can, but I take no shame in outsourcing as well. I love to support my fellow prop makers and seamstresses. When I start a new costume, I actually draft a list out first, and then I sketch out things I know I want to see rather than read. Still fun!
Jack Nickelz: Which video games are you most looking forward to playing?
Kearstin: Borderlands Presequel! And if what I’ve been reading recently were to come true, I would certainly pass out from excitement if there is going to be a new Gears of War game or even Left 4 Dead. But aside that, I am also looking forward to Evolve!
Jack Nickelz: Well thank you for taking time out to do this interview. Is there anything else you would like to say to the fans and readers?
Kearstin: Be yourself! Nobody likes facades! And remember, there are no rules to costuming, so whether your motivation is sexy shit or completely covered; DO IT! #mutantandproud
