Cutie Pie is a professional hooligan, Pastry Chef and Cosplayer! So you can understand why we here at CCU had to get her to hop into the hot seat.
Jack Nickelz: So tell us what first got you started in Cosplay?
Cutie Pie Creations: Growing up we always hosted international students, many of them being Japanese. Many of the students would bring toys and movies of Japanese cartoons. The 1st time I watched Totoro I was hooked! I must have watched it every single day of my childhood!
Jack Nickelz: What was your first Cosplay outfit?
Cutie Pie Creations: I don’t remember the 1st, but it was either Misae Amane from Death Note, or Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket!
Jack Nickelz: How was it going to a convention in full gear?
Cutie Pie Creations: Sometimes it’s pretty hard! Weather I’m getting stuck trying to get through a door, to pushing my way through the small spaces between the vendors tables at the con, it’s SO worth it!
Jack Nickelz: What has been some of your fav. Cosplays to do?
Cutie Pie Creations: Suiseiseki from Rozen Maiden has always been one of my favorite Cosplays. I guess it being one of my 1st Cosplays makes it kind of special! It’s also pretty fun walking around in a huge puffy dress! Another Cosplay I enjoy is Black Lotus from Accel World! Mostly because my hands are spears, like that’s crazy!
Jack Nickelz: Do you have a Cosplay that you are becoming known for?
Cutie Pie Creations: If I were to guess I’d say Soraka from League of Legends, I did win the Gotta Convention Cosplay contest in my Dryad Soraka Cosplay back in February! I’ve also done so many versions of Soraka, so I can see why it would be my most noticeable costume.
Jack Nickelz: How do you pick which Cosplay to do?
Cutie Pie Creations: I like to stand out, to be different. I usually base my character choices on their personality actually! If they have an interesting vibe to them I just think it makes them very interesting. And of course they gotta have a cool outfit! No matter how intricate the outfit is I’ll always try my best to recreate it!
Jack Nickelz: How long does it normally take you to do a Cosplay?
Cutie Pie Creations: I do like to take my time working on Cosplays. The time line really depends on how much work needs to go into the project. I usually like to take a month. Sometimes more sometimes less. Working as a Pastry Chef gives me very little free time to work on Cosplay, so I usually spend a few hours after working doing simple tasks, such as pinning fabrics together, creating patterns, and painting. I tend to leave my days off for doing the harder tasks such as sewing/ basically putting everything together.
Jack Nickelz: What’s the hardest Cosplay that you have had to do?
Cutie Pie Creations: For sure Choux A La Creme by Sakizou. Unfortunately I’ve only been able to wear it to 1 convention and have very few photos of it! I had been working on the Cosplay on and off for about 2 years. Was a lot of work trying to figure out the best way to make the metal hoop skirt, as well as the insane amount of small details on the lingerie! It was also my 1st time sewing a corset!
Jack Nickelz: Who are some of the Cosplayers that you admire?
Cutie Pie Creations: I honestly admire all of my friends who Cosplay! I am always amazed at their amazing work! As for “famous Cosplayers” I enjoy the art of Kamui Cosplay as well as Nereide Cosplay.
Jack Nickelz: Are there any Cosplays that you had to adjust because they were too revealing?
Cutie Pie Creations: Definitely one of my next Cosplays will be Popstar Soraka from League of legends. Let’s just say I’m making a very smart decision wearing a full purple body suit under her outfit! There is quite a lot of side/front boob going on!
Jack Nickelz: Why do you think that Cosplay is becoming more main stream?
Cutie Pie Creations: I think Cosplay is becoming more main stream because of all the new technologies coming out. Now that we have things like 3d printers and all these crazy materials coming out, it makes it easier to create more interesting costumes.
Jack Nickelz: What do family and friends think about your Cosplaying?
Cutie Pie Creations: I’m very lucky to have supportive friends/family! Although my parents can be super protective and worry about me when I’m crafting using blades and dremmels I’m happy that they support my hobby. My friends who do not Cosplay are always excited when Halloween comes along, they always come to me to borrow Cosplays or accessories for their Halloween costumes.
Jack Nickelz: What are your thoughts on people saying Cosplay is becoming too corporate?
Cutie Pie Creations: It makes me sad that some people take being “Cosplay famous” so serious. To me Cosplay isn’t about how “famous” you are, how “good” your Cosplay is, stuff like that. To me Cosplay is about having a good time! I absolute love the process of creating! Whether it’s styling a wig, to sewing a new part of my outfit, that feeling when it all comes together is AMAZING! Sometimes I feel like it’s a high school drama type of environment. If someone is wearing the same Cosplay as you they instantly judge you. Who wore it better? Who made the better quality version? Who looks more like the character?
Jack Nickelz: What future Cosplays can we expect to see from you this year?
Cutie Pie Creations: I’m currently working on Monarch Kog’Maw from league of legends as well as finishing up my Popstar Soraka from league of legends as well! I don’t have a set schedule for any other Cosplays but I have so many that I want to do! I won’t give away too much but you can expect some Cosplays from such shows as Steven Universe and Bravest Warriors!
Jack Nickelz: Thank you for taking time out to do this. Is there anything else you would like to say to the fans?
Cutie Pie Creations: Thank you so much for interviewing me! I’m honored to have such amazing and supportive followers! Keep being awesome!
