Zombabe is a model for Hazzardous Material. she is also a Online DJ, & digital artist. A multi-talented beauty from a team of talented people. I know, I know…this interview isn’t about her as a Cosplayer, but more about her as a model. I figured we break things up a bit and put her in the hot seat and ask her a few question about the Alt. Modeling field which seems to be growing hand to hand with the geek culture.
Jack Nickelz: First thing I have to ask, how did you come up with your name?
Zombabe: Well I’ve always had a fascination with zombie.. well anything really. Even just the concept or reanimating the dead! Like how rad is that?! One of my favourite art styles is classic pin-up as well as a style in general but when you add a zombie babe, well speaks for itself.
Jack Nickelz: What got you started on the path to modeling?
Zombabe: Very good question! Small interesting story for this which I will try not to bore too much with! I do and always have suffered from severe anxiety, which is also accompanied by depression so I was always secluded to myself. But that’s no way to live, when there’s someone in my life I care about, someone or something no matter what, I give them my all but being so closed and secluded you have no one. I wanted to break free, I’ve always known in the back of my mind how beautiful I am but the depression tore me down greatly. So with modelling I saw it as a way to break through it, and since then I’ve been happier.
Jack Nickelz: Where you always doing the alternative style of modeling?
Zombabe: Oh absolutely, “alternative” is my style I’m so in love with. Rather I’m very alternative or not it is my passion.
Jack Nickelz: What do you like most about being an alt. model?
Zombabe: Mainly the lovely people I meet! All the mutual passions for things. I find the people to be more accepting of who you are and/or who you are not! The atmosphere is phenomenal.
Jack Nickelz: How did you hook up with Hazzardous Material?
Zombabe: Hazzardous Material does casting calls over Facebook and their website so I said screw it and went ahead and applied.
Jack Nickelz: What have been some of the things you have done since joining Hazzardous Material?
Zombabe: Well I’ve met quite a few of our Hazmat family. We’ve done some cool things such as shoot parties, Edmonton Expo Comic Con, Attended local metal shows, Shot with a few people. I truly enjoy it all.
Jack Nickelz: What got you started as a DJ?
Zombabe: What got me started as DJing is my music has always been a bit “particular” and it’s surprisingly rare to run into someone who is also into the same. I’ve always had an undying passion for music and it will never end. I love sharing music, it makes for great conversation as well.
Jack Nickelz: Why do you think there has been a big increase in the light that’s being shined on female DJs?
Zombabe: Well that’s a good question, personally I don’t know. I would say because women have been stepping up to the plate on lot of things as well. Not only DJing. I think it’s rad! 9. Where can people hear you spin? I’m currently only an online DJ. I have a Caster.fm which is where I’m heard on most.
Jack Nickelz: What has been the biggest gig that you have ever done as a DJ?
Zombabe: The biggest I would say was I was hired online for a house party in DC. I was spinning for them all the way from Calgary AB. Man, that felt amazing!
Jack Nickelz: Are you surprised at the response you receive from your various ventures?
Zombabe: Surprised more or less, yes. I mean I never expected things to go so well for me! I never had the confidence to bring myself to all these things. Once I got the knads to do it, it’s all been going uphill!
Jack Nickelz: What else can we expect from you in the future?
Zombabe: Lot’s of shoots! I plan to make something great from these opportunities I keep receiving and plans I make for myself. Watch for me! Zombabes comin’ to getcha!
Jack Nickelz: Thank you for taking time out to do this. Is there anything else you would like to say to the fans and readers?
Zombabe: No, Thank YOU! What I would like to say is a big thank you to all the fans and supporters, the push daily is all I need and I get more than that. I could never repay you. Also for those fighting with anxiety and/or depression, never give up. It’s majorly cheesy but it’s true. Everybody is a somebody. Stay brutal!
